I wanted to learn on the piano, with the help of a high school classmate/friend, but there were too many years lost since I played keyboards. I wanted to hate Donna’s version since I absolutely hated LTLY,B but I came around to her version. Hadn’t heard it in years and this clip brought tears to my eyes.

I love Trevor Horn mostly but this is just a Moroder steal..! It’s not bad, but it’s not good.

I’d never known of Featherbed, and I’ll leave it behind right here. It’s so awful..! And…Tony Orlando and Barry worked together…?!? Who knew..!?! I’d no idea.

Thanks again for the great post..! Another over produced original but she could do no wrong with that amazing voice!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30761663.post-81494660710602763262021-03-31T14:55:55.680-05:002021-03-31T14:55:55.680-05:00Manilow '73 by far. Donna Summer was club music and could have been sung by anyone as long as the beat was there.Jimmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06497874766764411664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30761663.post-73065800066297375932021-03-31T12:55:56.481-05:002021-03-31T12:55:56.481-05:00I'm definitely not a "Fanilow". Predictable and boring.

I like the Donna Summer version but hadn't heard it for so long I had forgotten about the organism which seems to be her "Love to Love You Baby" moment in the song.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30761663.post-70341575277050414212021-03-31T10:18:16.161-05:002021-03-31T10:18:16.161-05:00I would love to say Donna Summer. In my mind, the arrangements fit the lyrics as a love song. But there's something about Summers' that feels...good; hopeful. The duet does that, too.whkattkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18303183404359234168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30761663.post-11185953932826507642021-03-31T08:43:27.253-05:002021-03-31T08:43:27.253-05:00Hahaha

As for the song, I have that Donna album! Hers is the only version I'd heard, so listening to Barry's was illuminating.
I love how you tear apart these songs. The first version did sound like the beginning of the Love Boat, TBH. I agree with you the '73 version could be the best.
But I like Donna's so there's that.

XOXOSixpence Notthewiserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11230453585589265578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30761663.post-815770213872880132021-03-31T07:54:11.169-05:002021-03-31T07:54:11.169-05:0073 barry - the full version.73 barry - the full version.anne marie in phillyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11765140782182605141noreply@blogger.com
