Wonderland Burlesque's
Down The Rabbit Hole:
Fancy

Down The Rabbit Hole merely places a spotlight on something slightly unusual that's caught my interest. With the help of Wikipedia, YouTube, and other sites, I gather information and learn something new.

Today, we take a look at the music and history of Fancy.

From Wikipedia:

Manfred Alois Segieth, known by his stage name Fancy, is a German singer, songwriter and record producer.

Manfred Alois Segieth was born in Munich. Fancy started playing guitar at the age of twelve. While attending a boarding school where the enjoyment of worldly music was not allowed, he had to listen to pop records secretly. At age 14, he switched to the humanistic high school in Munich. During and after high school, he worked in various bands as a guitarist and bass player, though he mainly performed as a singer. However, his parents did not share Fancy's enthusiasm for music. His father only changed his mind after recovering from a major operation.

He learned the German schlager style of producing under the name of Tess Teiges, met Jimi Hendrix (1967), made demo tapes with Giorgio Moroder, and produced different international acts such as Claudia Field & Red Face in the mid '70s before venturing out on his own.

Segieth's career commenced in 1984 as a European-based pop singer, songwriter. and producer. He received worldwide airplay for the international disco hits Slice Me Nice and Chinese Eyes which reached #2 on the US Billboard Dance Charts. Fancy also enjoyed a #1 hit in Spain with Bolero. A further nine of his singles charted in both the Top 10 and Top 20 throughout Europe during the mid to late 80s. Flames of Love received worldwide exposure and became his highest-charting hit.

Fancy has continued to release compilation albums and one-off singles up until 2022.
