Weekend Onesie:
Male Nude Illustrations
In Vintage Advertisements
Those of you who are regular readers of this blog know that I am infatuated with vintage graphics, no matter their subject or form.
Today, we take a look at a few of my favorite examples of male nude illustrations in vintage advertisements. Now, we've already taken a look at WWII era advertising and vintage underwear ads. Most of the examples today are of European origin, with a few exceptions.
The illustrations are strong and sensual and more than a bit homoerotic, so I believe you'll see why I find them so attractive. Set in idyllic settings, I also find them to be very soothing.
Initially, these illustrations were merely being used to sell everyday items; bicycles, shoes, olive oil. However, time has seen to it that they've transcended their original purpose and have become art in their own right.
See if you agree...
Beautifully drawn...
These graphics have become iconic.
And part of art history.
