Part VII
As the say in show biz: some got it, some ain't.
To do with or without?
That appears to be the question. And these are the men with the all the answers.

Either way? It's movie magic!

The Way Of A Man With A Maid
(1918)
AKA: Kärlek på övertid
This American silent comedy was directed by Donald Crisp and written by Ida M. Evans and Edith M. Kennedy. The film stars Bryant Washburn, Wanda Hawley, Fred Goodwins, Clarence Geldart, Jay Dwiggins, and Bessie Eyton.
Apparently not based on the anonymous, sadomasochistic, erotic novel The Way of a Man with a Maid, first published in 1908. It was the Fifty Shades Of Grey of it's time!

The Man Without A Face
(1928)
This American adventure film serial was directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet and stars Allene Ray and Walter Miller.
The film is now considered to be lost.

The Man With The Cross
(1943)
The film is set in the summer of 1942 in Ukraine where Italian troops are fighting those of the Soviet Union. A military chaplain volunteers to stay behind with a badly wounded Italian soldier, even though this means certain capture. Loosely based on the life of Reginaldo Giuliani, gold medalist and hero of fascist propaganda. He was an Italian military chaplain who was killed while on active service.
This Italian war film was directed by Roberto Rossellini and stars Alberto Tavazzi, Roswita Schmidt and Attilio Dottesio.
It was the final part of Rossellini's "Fascist trilogy" following The White Ship (1941) and A Pilot Returns (1942). Rossellini cast his friend, the art director Alberto Tavazzi in the title role, while his girlfriend Roswita Schmidt played the female lead.

The Man With The Steel Whip
( 1954)
Saloon owner Barnet wants the Indian reservation land on which he knows there is gold. He organizes a gang, aided by some renegade Indians, to raid and terrorize close-by settlers, hoping to arouse them to drive off the Indians. Rancher Jerry Randall, accompanied by school teacher Nancy Cooper, sets out to defeat the plot. In order to win the loyalty of the innocent tribe members, Randall masquerades as a legendary friend of the Indians, El Latigo.
This Western serial (12 episodes in all) was directed by Franklin Adreon and stars Dick Simmons, Barbara Bestar, Dale Van Sickel, Mauritz Hugo, and Lane Bradford.
Uses considerable stock footage from the previous Republic serials Zorro's Black Whip (1944), The Painted Stallion (1937) and Daredevils of the West (1943).
Shot in 20 days, Man with the Steel Whip was budgeted at $172,794 although the final negative cost was $174,718 (a $1,924, or 1.1%, overspend). It was the most expensive Republic serial of 1954.
