Weekend Onesie: The 'Little' Woman

Weekend Onesie:
The 'Little' Woman

Back in the days when we were defined by our genitalia...

Madison Avenue certainly loved the idea of 'the little woman'.

They loved to tell her what she was good for, what to do to improve herself, and what was expected (and not) of her.

Let's take a brief look through the vintage files of advertising past, in a nostalgic re-visitation of an ideal whose time has long past.

We continue to grow as a culture...
Unless we choose not to.
Want to keep up? Grow.
- uptonking from Wonderland Burlesque

A Woman's A Place - Gilbert O'Sullivan

Sex appeal - an easy sell.

These things? They held power!

But what was actually expected of a women?
It wasn't for her to decide, and...
Apparently, she doesn't care!

Driving certainly was never part of the picture.

Use less... or useless?
What was her 'function'?

Now, there certainly were specific  expectations...

Within reason, of course.
(Poor, Carol!)

It was vital that women take care of...

...what was really important.

Really, really important.

Amy gets it!

Her comfort, of course...

Was also to be considered.

Because she had to be functional...
To accomplish what was actually important!

It was important she know her place.

Oh, the man was willing to help... sort of.

Whatever was needed to get the job done.

You see, it was all predicated upon the needs of a man.

And their expectations...

Which seemed pretty clear.

They wanted a dishwasher...

...but also a trophy wife.

For centuries, hoards of women acted
as if nothing was wrong.

They simply surrendered their will.

They spent their time anticipating a man's needs.

Going to all sorts of lengths to achieve
the desired results.

It was enough to lead one to...

...drastic measures.

Well, if you can't beat them...

...join them!

Or just beat them.

Or...??

Whatever it takes.

As long as the status quo remains.

To be perfectly honest, I think the world would be a better place if more things came with a glamour trim.

Although, I don't think Sabrina's "projection equipment" needs anymore enhancing.
