Weekend Onesie:
A Marine's Basic Training
With Etienne
If I'd known basic training was like this, I might have signed up.
It's brutal!
Today, we take a second look at what it means to be a marine. This time, according to illustrator Etienne.
I guess you never know what might happen once you step off base.
And based on the story arc, I'm thinking there was probably a part two to this story detailing all that happened once this Marine returned.
We'll get to the story in a moment.
Right now... it's time for a little gay history lesson.
About the artist:
Domingo Francisco Juan Esteban 'Dom' Orejudos, Secundo, known by the pseudonyms 'Etienne' and 'Stephen', was an openly gay artist, ballet dancer, and choreographer, best known for his ground-breaking masculine gay male erotica beginning in the 1950s. Orejudos' leather-themed art promoted an image of gay men as strong and masculine, as an alternative to the then-dominant stereotype as weak and effeminate. He and his partner, Chuck Renslow, established a number of businesses and events which went on to become a part of gay history, along with several publications. In addition, he was also active and influential in the Chicago ballet community.
And now... on with the show!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
We've a whole year of them ahead of us.
Make each one count.
