Weekend Onesie:
The Night Joel Grey Fell In Love
With the Oscars coming up tomorrow night, I though it appropriate to share this tale - which may, or... may not... contain a kernel of truth. (Though I do think the photos speak for themselves.)
The year was 1972.
Joel Grey had another year before winning a Best Supporting Actor award for his virtuoso performance in Bob Fosse's brilliant film adaptation of the musical Cabaret.
Instead, in 1972, he was the presenter of the award for Best Original Song.
And the winner was... Isaac Hayes for his blistering theme song for the film Shaft.
Backstage, after Hayes had accepted the award, the two stood side by side and what the photographers captured that evening was...
...the night Joel Grey fell in love.
You can see it in his eyes. You can see it in his smile. He can't look away. He can't help himself.
It's as if the world presented him with the largest, best birthday cake ever.
And Joel? Well, he can't wait to blow that candle out!

For it seems that Isaac Hayes had something that Mr. Grey couldn't wait to get his hands on!
Yes the Oscars can be truly magical.
And that night?
Well... I'll just leave the rest to your imaginations.

Joel does seem rather enchanted with Mr. Hayes.
