Last Monday, we took a look at the dozen vintage gay pulp fiction titles published by the Grand Prix imprint in 1969. Today, we're going to look at an imprint which I believe may very well be related: Lavender Publications.
Again,
The reason I believe them to be related are based on three 'coincidences'.
1/ Pamphlet form: they are both folded and stapled in the middle, lacking a spine.
2/ Similar artwork: if you compare the artwork on the Grand Prix books to these, I'm sure you'll agree there are a number a similarities.
3/ A shared author: While it is only one book, Jim Curry, who is one of two authors for this imprint, did write for Grand Prix. And, like Grand Prix - which had two authors who wrote 11 out of 12 titles, Lavender Publications has only two authors: Jim Curry and Pat Collins.
I haven't seen a publication page, so I have no idea what their city of origin might be. Nor do I know what year, though, based on the increased price point of $1.75 versus Grand Prix's $1.50, my guess would be 1969 - but some time after Grand Prix's publications.
Also, like Grand Prix, the imprints lifespan was not long; I could only locate six titles, and that is also the amount listed on Hommi Publishing's Big Ass List. And, as with Grand Prix, there is no numbering system, so no way to determine what order they were published. My hunch is they were all released at the same time.
As always, if you happen to know anything about any of these imprints, please leave the info in the comments section. I'd love to learn more.
