Acquired Tastes XLIII
Gay Pulp Fiction, Part 169
Monkey Publications
Today we take a look at a new imprint, Monkey Publications.
They fit in well next to the likes of Lavender and Grand Prix Publications, which we looked at in the previous two Mondays, because they use the pamphlet form, which means they are folded and stapled in the middle and lack a spine.
They also all have a limited number of authors and a very limited output / short lifespan. Monkey Publications published only 16 titles.
Lavender and Grand Prix both featured only three authors each, while Monkey Publications has four: Tony Barron, Owen Rickson, Jack Evans, and Vic Travis.
I haven't seen a publication page, so I have no idea what their city of origin might be, but based on information culled from Hommi Publishing's Big Ass List, I do know the bulk of the titles were published in 1969, with two titles being published in 1970.
As with Grand Prix and Lavender, there is no numbering system, so no way to determine what order they were published. I have listed the books in the order they appeared on Hommi Publishing's Big Ass List, with the exception of a title which was published in 1970.

The cover art started very simple, featuring the same monkey with an umbrella. However, near the end of the imprint's life span, they began to toy with new design concepts.
Another point of interest? Some of the titles would later be republished - sometimes omitting the author's name or using a new pseudonym, by other publishing houses/imprints - not an uncommon practice. In this case the two main houses are Centaur Publications (1969-1970) and Black Knight Classics (1969-1970). They would reprint, sometimes altering the title just slightly - or a great deal.
As always, if you happen to know anything about any of these imprints, please leave the info in the comments section. I'd love to learn more.

#18 absolutely true!
I kind of love the idea of Classics of the Homosexual Underground, TBH.
Also, why the monkey??
Spanking it?
XOXO
@ Six - most likely...LOL.
Interesting transition to artwork, though.
