Lost Boys: Vintage Images of Nick Rogers

Lost Boys:
Vintage Images of Nick Rogers

Nick Rodgers is quite the departure from our regular gallery of twinks, muscle boys, surfer dudes and preppy studs.

He's an otter. A sexy man-stud otter.

His secret weapon? Something that most would consider a drawback, a weakness, or a flaw; that balding pate of his!

I don't know about you... but I think it's sexy as hell. And it doesn't hurt that he's also so incredibly good looking.

With that perfect body and little porn stash?  Those eyes! All that delicious fur?

I just want to gobble him up and marry his ass.

Interest piqued? Good.

Let's find out a little bit more about my new crush...

Lawrence Rudolph White, Jr. was born in Harris County, TX on June 28, 1952. Once he came of age, he joined the Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Sargent while serving during the Viet Nam War. As an enlisted man, he lost his virginity when he was s 21 years old after being seduced by a fellow Air Force member.

Oh, those fly boys!

Initially, he thought of himself as bisexual. Once out of the service, he would hook up with women during the week, but, come the weekend, would travel to San Francisco where he'd actively pursue the company of men.

Eventually, he found work at The Advocate newspaper, where he put together the 'Trader Dick' pages. The Trader Dick section of the paper dealt with personal ads, listings of items for sale and opportunities for employment - including advertisements looking for actors to star in gay porn films. The more he assembled the ads, the more intrigued he became with the idea of joining the industry. After relocating to San Francisco, a friend of his introduced him to director Peter DeSimone and doors quickly opened.

DeSimone, who had worked closely with Jack Deveau, cast the newly christened Nick Rodgers in his 1977 film, Hot Truckin'. Not only did the camera love Rodgers, it also turned out that he was quite the actor. This, in turn, led to Mark Aaron casting him as one of the three leads in his 1977 film, Grease Monkeys, which proved to be a huge hit. So popular, in fact, that it nabbed Rodgers a 1978 Data Boy Award for 'Best Physique.'

After taking a year off, he returned to film in 1979, working with director Steve Scott in Rough Cut. Scott would later, in an interview, rave about Rodger's look, while claiming that he had "the best looking dick in the business." So convinced of his acting talent, Scott felt Rodgers could have made it as a mainstream actor.

Next up, Rodgers was cast in another DeSimone vehicle, The Idol, starring Kevin Redding. While his scene with Redding was well-received, it was not without it's issues. It turns out the two actors had actually hooked up long before being cast in the film. In fact, DeSimone was convinced that “Nick was (Redding's) boyfriend.” Surprisingly, this former intimacy led to a bit of a performance issue: “Nick had a problem staying hard,” much to the disappointment of both the director and his co-star, Redding.

Redding would later tell Manshots magazine that Nick was, indeed, not his boyfriend. That it had been a casual hook-up and while he was disappointed with Rodger's lack of performance, he did not feel that their previous tryst had anything to do with it. It seems Rodger's was known in the industry as having difficulty getting and staying hard on camera. Redding noted that, after the scene was completed, Nick, along with DeSimione, climbed underneath the massage table on which their scene had just taken place and...

...jerked off!

But if Rodgers had issues performing, it certainly didn't hurt his chances in the industry - they loved him - nor did it translate to his audience. For his fans? He was manliness and virility personified.

During his time in the industry, Rodgers would bounce from city to city making live appearances at various bars and movie theatres. One fan recalls seeing him "in person at the Century Theater in Hollywood", a 1920's movie palace that had been turned into a gay movie theatre, featuring a backroom behind the movie screen and sex in the restrooms and aisles.

The fan "was surprised to learn that (Rodgers) wasn’t all that tall; under six feet." Still, he had "to give him lots of kudos. As well as being a good performer, (Rodgers) was a pretty good actor, too." In particular, he called attention to Rodger's work in Steve Scott's film, Performance (1981), in which Rodgers appears in full KISS make-up with a headful of beaded braids. "He could dance and lip-sync as well. His impersonation of Gene Simmons isn’t bad at all."

After 1979, Rodgers would only appear in a single film per year, eventually retiring from the industry completely in 1985. His 1984 film, Rangers is considered an absolute classic and a must-see. During his time in the industry he would share the screen with such greats as Al Parker, Kip Noll, Jack Wrangler, John Holmes, J.W. King, Melchor Diaz, Giorgio Canali, Chris Allen, Derrick Stanton, and Eric Stryker

Sadly, Rodgers turned up HIV positive. For his final years, he relocated to Orange County, TX, where he died on January 10, 1987. Laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park, in Vidor, TX, he was buried with full military honors.

He was 34 years old.

--- ---

I find this man immensely attractive. All that testosterone causing the hair on his head to fall out just made him all the sexier. It's his eyes. That body. And all that fur.

And, from everything that I read, he was a real nice guy... no one had a bad thing to say about him.

I do wish I could have found out more about him - though I was surprised by the amount of stuff I did find. Actors from this particular era of classic gay porn? It's difficult to find a lot of information; not wanting to broadcast what they did for a living meant not sharing a lot of personal details about themselves.

Very sad that he passed away so young.

Well, that's all for now. If you have any info to share or a memory related to Nick Rodgers, please leave it in the comments section. Always a pleasure to hear from you...

And, as always... thanks for reading.

The mustache and the aviator glasses? YES, PLEASE!
I have a thing for eighties clones, apparently.

So cool that he was buried with military honors. Surprising, too.

XOXO

Totally agree - the balding head is definitely part of the turn on, just as boner-inducing as the rest of him. Love the collection of vintage porn too. A golden age of smut
