Gay Pulp Fiction, Part 87
HIS69, Part 16 of 20
The HIS69 imprint remained active from 1971 thru 1988, delivering an astounding 240 titles. Surrey House, Inc. / Surree Ltd, Inc. of San Diego and Santee, California are responsible for this imprint which was distributed by the same company as Trojan Books, Manhard Books, Gay Books and Gay Way Books; the Zorro Distribution Company, also operating out of San Diego.
It should be noted that many of these titles, with original artwork included, were simultaneously republished under the Gay Books imprint and then, later, minus the artwork, were also republished under the ManPower imprint.
The artwork for the HIS69 books would go through only two minor shifts with all the covers featuring ink drawings by various uncredited illustrators - artwork quite similar to what we saw with the Manhard imprint.
Here are the next twelve titles. This week, once again, I was able to track down all twelve.

So, what is this? Is it a robbery gone bad? Did the victim kidnap the the person who broke in, or is it the other way around. Or? Is he breaking in a new boy? As in, expanding this young man's whore-rizons? I would like to know. Because that shadowy dude in the background? That is creepy AF.

Big Rod

Another cop-themed tome. Pictured is a frequent gay man fantasy, one that almost happened for me... in, of all places, Iowa! When a cop has you sit in the front seat of his squad car on a deserted road in the middle of summer and all you're wearing is a pair of running shoes and running shorts with nothing on underneath? Well... you gotta figure something is about to go down (most likely you.) Sadly, he got a call on his CB thing and we had to cut it short before we got to the main event. Sigh. Yeah. Like that will every happen again.

Breaking And Entering

He began his career as an an actor in the Mark Taper Forum's Los Angeles production of A Meeting by the River, written by Christopher Isherwood and Don Bacardy. He credits Isherwood's influence for his decision to become a writer.
As an actor, he would appear in the films The Born Losers (1967) and Assault on the Wayne (1971). Through contacts made as an actor, he was hired as a writer, working on scripts for several episodes of the popular television show The Paper Chase and various development projects for Twentieth Century Fox.
On the side he wrote pornography under the pseudonym Tom Hardy. As he found his script work being more and more dictated by committee, he came to realize that writing porn was the source of his greatest satisfaction due to his ability to be in total control.
Hoban escaped to an isolated valley in Hawaii where he lived for several years under a tarp, walking for miles to a pay phone with a pocket full of change whenever he needed to contact the outside world. This sacrifice enabled him to start his own company, Omnium Publishing, using it to publish, not only his erotic novels, but his stage plays, as well.
Notable works include the Adventures of a High School Hunk series (1990), The Marine Olaf' (1990), the murder-mystery Cock Stealers (1978), Learning the Ropes (1984) - a mystery which transforms into an initiation novel, and the story collection, Runaway.
Sadly, Hoban died of AIDS on April 10, 1993, in Kakuihaele, Hawaii.

I'm still loving the cover illustrations. The beefy men they have are right up my alley.
And I think I'd still read these. Some of the topics are not very PC but I bet the stories are hot. I tried reading those pages but I'm not in my tabled and cannot zoom in comfortably.
