Happy National Talk In An Elevator Day!
Everybody's experienced this: you get on to a crowded elevator and everybody stares straight ahead, mute as that panel of buttons everyone keeps pushing.
Well, that pushes my buttons.
So I am super happy there's such a thing as National Talk In An Elevator Day.
When I used to work in an office tower on the 30th floor in downtown Minneapolis, the elevator rides were the worst. Surrounded by supposed 'work colleagues' and not a one of them would so much as make eye contact.
Once I rode up with a women who was dressed impeccably - like a news anchor - and I told her so. Most uncomfortable elevator ride of my life. I don't know if it was because I dared to talk to her or if she found my comment offensive (it wasn't), but the chill in that elevator could've stopped global warming in its tracks.
After moving on to a different company, different building - I made a point to take the stairs. It's good exercise, plus... you're no longer a stationary target.
Not that I don't love me an elevator.
