Acquired Tastes XLIII: Gay Pulp Fiction, Part 165: Gay Novel. Part 1 of 2

Acquired Tastes XLIII:
Gay Pulp Fiction, Part 165
Gay Novel. Part 1 of 2

This is a Greenleaf Classics imprint - which surprised me, because not only is is part of the classic era (1959 to 1975) - but they are NOT listed on the go-to site regarding the history of this publisher; a strange oversight on the part of the creators of that site, for it's rather comprehensive and well-done. I'm going to assume its accidental.

Needless to say, very little is known about the imprint which published 20 titles in 1973 and operated out of a building at 3511 Camino Del Rio South in San Diego, CA.

In that short period of time, they did go through three distinct cover designs... actually reverting to the second one for a couple of covers, before going back to the third concept.

These books are attributed to authors... many using pseudonyms - which are familiar names in the history of the genre. They are also apparently quite rare, as I don't recall seeing them coming up for auction on eBay in the past three years (and I check on a daily basis.)

We're going to start with the first ten titles, for which I 'sort of' found six covers.

The Sex Master

George Delacourt has four books in the genre to his credit.

--- ---

 The Father Lover

Patrick Doyle is a familiar name. We've seen his works, here, here, here, here and here. He has sixteen novels to his credit.

Available as a downloadable PDF or ebook at Hommi Publishing.

Joint Hunger
 Author: Chad Stuart
 1973
GN-399

Chad Stuart (not to be confused with the Chad Stuart of Chad and Jeremy fame) has 18 credits in the genre. He was published by a number of imprints, including: HIS69, RAM-10, and Golden Boy Books.
--- ---

Swede Lips
Author: Lew Hollings
 1973
GN-400

--- ---

 Boyflesh Book I
 Author: Sebastian Lamb
 1973
GN-401

Sebastian Lamb is the pseudonym of Lyal H. Stevens. He wrote 29 gay erotic novels (and a work copy of one additional novel) and three gay erotic short stories between 1972 and 1979, including several for the Blueboy Library imprint.

 Boyflesh Book II
Author: Sebastian Lamb
 1973
GN-402

Lyal H. Stevens was born on July 29, 1927, most likely in New Jersey, where his Social Security card was issued. By 1970, he had moved to Los Angeles, and had begun writing gay erotic fiction. His first published novel, Coq Le Grand, was published by Greenleaf Classics in 1970, and in the following year he sold seven other manuscripts to several publishers of erotica. Although Stevens may have worked at the Mirish Corp. (the draft of one of his novels is typed partly on the letterhead of that company's publicity director's stationary) his erotic fiction appears to have been his chief source of income, and he wrote under a number of pseudonyms, including Peter Pepper, Sebastian Lamb, Llewellyn Hollingsworthy, E. Rex Dix, and Lon Savage. He died in Los Angeles on April 15, 1995.

 The Butt Boy
Author: Greg Dawson
1973
GN-403

Please note the distinctive black outline in which the title of the books appear. Remind you of anything? Hmm?

Available as a downloadable PDF or ebook at Hommi Publishing.

 Making the Jock
Author: Chad Stuart
 1973
GN-404

Another from Chad Stuart and the last title to bear this cover design.

--- ---

Stud Hung
Author: Peter Tuesday Hughes
 1973
GN-405

Peter Tuesday Hughes (quite the pen name) was very prolific with a total of 33 books in the genre, many of which were for the Blueboy Library imprint. He primarily wrote gay-oriented sci-fi and mystery novels, and is noted as an early exponent of the gay gothic subgenre. In 2013, Peter Tuesday Hughes' 'Bruce Doe' novels, a series of six mysteries, were named one of the top ten mystery series by The Lambda Literary Review.

This is the first title to feature the second of three cover designs for the imprint.

--- ---

Shaft Man
Author: Chad Stuart
1973
GN-406

According to Hommi Publishing's Big Ass List this one is set in a coal mine.

Available as a downloadable PDF or ebook at Hommi Publishing.

Next week: ten more titles and the completion of the Gay Novel imprint.

Until then...

if only I had these stories and these comics in my adolescence... But maybe it was better not to, because I would have destroyed my dick with wanks

Ohhh 33 titles?
Quite the author! And I'm loving the covers! Quite risqué for the time.

XOXO
