Acquired Tastes XLIII:
Gay Pulp Fiction, Part 102
HIS69, Part 31 of 44
The HIS69 imprint was active from 1971 thru 1988, delivering an astounding 531 titles. Surrey House, Inc. / Surree Ltd, Inc. of San Diego and Santee, California are responsible for this imprint which was distributed by the same company as Trojan Books, Manhard Books, Gay Books and Gay Way Books; the Zorro Distribution Company, also operating out of San Diego.
It should be noted that many of these titles, with original artwork included, were simultaneously republished under the Gay Books imprint and then, later, minus the artwork, were also republished under the ManPower imprint.
The artwork for the HIS69 books would go through only two minor shifts with all the covers featuring ink drawings by various uncredited illustrators - artwork quite similar to what we saw with the Manhard imprint.

Came up short four times, again, this week. So twelve titles this week with a only eight covers.

Boy Crazy
Author: Mark Andrews
HIS69485

Boy crazy? Pretty much sums me up for most of the summer.
But then, I'm not as crazy as I used to be. My 'hunting' days are over. I'd rather read a book.
The young ones? I enjoy admiring from afar. As for those of a certain age, should they approach me, I'm polite. I like conversation. But, all too often, the spark is simply not there... and, these days, I try to limit the amount of charity work I do.
I saw this title and thought... what, they sell ice cream? And... take a look in the background; that is indeed the case! Blondie must pedal about wearing next to nothing with one of those silver coolers behind him. Probably a three-wheel bike? I wonder if he sells milk shakes? Because I'm sure he's got all the boys running into the yard and something tells me that his are indeed better than mine...
Huh. Your guess is as good as mine. The title seems rather straightforward, while the cover definitely is definitely going in a different direction than expected. The oil lantern? The cowboy hat? A student/teacher orgy? Guess the only way to find out is to read it, but this one is a definite head scratcher.
Another one I found at the last minute.
Little doubt what's going on in the backroom at this warehouse. And it looks like their boss wants in on the action. Fun drawing, though the actual mechanics are a bit of a reality stretch. And I dunno... if you were blondie, would you invite your boss on board? Do you think he has a choice?
And that's all for this week.
Next week, another dozen titles.
Until then... thanks for reading!

There are so very many books to be read.
This is the rarest of occurrences. Not only could I not find a trace of this one on the internet, but even our pal over at Hommi Publishing came up short. And that's the odd nature of these books. No records. Lots of lost works. I guess that's part of what I find fascinating about them. Still... as collectors go, surely someone has a full set and information about this one. Otherwise, imagine the frustration of collecting this imprint? Nothing galls like a hole in a collection.
Found this one at the last second.
Just the other week, it was National Repeat Day, so I featured a bunch of photos of twins. It was my second collection of such photos and what surprised me most was - there was only one repeat. Apparently the market is thirsty for this sort of thing and there were a whole bunch of new (to me) faces.
And who among us hasn't entertained the thought of having someone who looks exactly like you to grow up with. I know there are those twins who don't get along, but all I imagine is growing up with someone experiencing what I'm experiencing. I suppose there are limitations, though; it's not like you could read each other's thoughts.

Take It Like A Man
Author: Murray Montague

I love this author's name. If I was a lounge singer or a private detective, I would want my name to be Murray Montague.

High School Cream

Trucker Sucker
Author: Ward Michaels
HIS69490 (HIS6986)
(Cover Not Found)
Ward Michaels, Michael Ward, Mike Ward, and Art Patterson... somehow all connected, or simply a pseudonym used by multiple authors. I could not find the cover for HIS69490, but it is apparently a reissue of this book with a new author credited. When I looked up books credited to Ward Michaels in the LibraryThing Catalog, HIS6986 was included in the listing. Yet another little mystery associated with this imprint.

Macho Studs
Author: Michael Scott
HIS69491
I take it this is about tiger tamers, maybe a circus-themed offering? I dunno, but I'm not sure getting that close to any wild animal is very safe or smart. So, file this one under pure fantasy.

The Hot Young Hunk
Book 1
Author: David Chaney
HIS69492
A day at the beach? Suggestively squirting sun tan lotion in the direction of a prone muscle queen sporting six pack abs and a woody about to escape his speedo?
Must have been the only way the illustration would have fit on the cover. Otherwise, I cannot explain all that white space. Other than the two main figures, everything about this one seems a bit odd.

Hot Jocks
Author: Dirk Van Damm
HIS69495
I can't tell where this is happening... an airplane? Is that one dude wearing a very nondescript military uniform? The window seems really large, as does the seat and where's the other seat?
Well, I have heard tales and maybe seen an amatuer video or two where this sort of thing happens, typically in the back seat of a bus. A very curious illustration.

The Hot Young Hunk
Book 2
Author: David Chaney
HIS69496
A sequel! I can't make out what that little sign in the upper left of the illustration says, but I bet that would give us an idea of what's going on here. I'm thinking the dude with the porn-stache is wearing a towel and this is a bathhouse. Also, our young hunk doesn't seem quite so young anymore. Happens to us all, Mary Agnes.

Next week, another dozen titles.
Until then... thanks for reading!

Hommi has an interesting site.... I wonder if they accept submissions. Couldn't find any tab for it, though.
I've told you before how much I love these covers!
So sexy! So hot!
And yes, Murray Montague is the pseudonym to have!
XOXO
I love perusing your library! I may have a museum as you say, but you're the one with the wall of books hahaha. An old blogger friend calls me an 'archivist' as much as I consider myself a pornographer of (mostly) antique imagery :)
