Weekend Onesie: One With Nature
I spent the early part of the week with nature. We had lovely temps; 79 - 85 degrees, Sunday thru Wednesday. I threw caution to the wind, worked five hours a day and took PTO for the rest. Timing is everything as the season wanes. I wanted to take full advantage of what we have left.
I read a good deal. Sat on my blanket. Packed plenty of light snacks; protein bars, nuts, dried fruit, and fig newtons. Tons of water, as hydration is key to a good time.
Sunday was the most blissful day; a tiny breeze, and the bluest sky streaked with occasional cloud formations. The prairie is dry and a bit brittle and the powers that be, in anticipation to the great mow down, gave it a bit of a haircut around the edges. Still, there is much to love, much to enjoy. A flock of seagulls(!) appeared out of nowhere - a good fifty or more - and proceeded to delight my eyes with a most impromptu sky ballet. It was breathtaking.
Otherwise, dragonflies rule the sky, interrupted by the occasional young hawk flying overhead.
These are the days.
I shall store their memory deep within, to keep me warm once winter pounds its brutal, icy message home.
