The 12 Days Before Xmas - Day Five
The Weather Girls
On the fifth day before Xmas, my true love (disco) did give to me... two shiny mirror balls of fun in the form of this floor stomper.
In 1983, Paul Shaffer/Paul Jabara gifted The Weather Girls, who then, in turn, gifted the world with the gayest disco cacophony known to man, in the form of the classic It's Raining Men. Hoping lightening might strike twice and they could become forever part of the holiday season, Shaffer and Jabara also came up with Dear Santa (Bring Me a Man This Christmas) and The Weather Girls were only too happy to give it voice... and a video.
Martha Wash and Izora Armstead (formerly Two Tons of Fun) are wonders to hear and behold. They have voices like none other. But I must question many of the choices made by the creative team behind this video.
What's with the skinny bitches getting all the sequins? What's with The Solid Gold dancer choreography and bat-cape bedecked Barbie dolls? And why are Martha and Izora forced to wear nothing but a couple of Pepto-Bismol colored onesies that make them look like Tele-Tubbies? And WHERE ARE THE MEN?
It sad.
Saddest thing comes at the end, when our disco divas are left attempting to twirl around and around in a gently falling snow in those horrible onesies. They look like two toddlers in heels about to topple down.
I guess the concept of Sexy Santa hadn't been born yet. Or the idea of having our ladies surrounded by hunky, half-clothed studs simply didn't occur to anyone.
Now... I understand that Willam and a couple of his cohorts have done a remake of this. Something tells me they probably got it right. (I just checked - ummm, maybe Willam was in a bad mood?)
As for The Weather Girls? Well, 'tis the season!
At least these ladies can sing!

I love these women but never heard this song before. Unfortunately, everything you said is true: It. Very. Sad.
Oh dear.
Yes! I adore Martha Wash (and the Weather Girls) I have the 12" of It's Raining Men. Didn't she sing with Sylvester?
Also, there's no Black Box or C+C Music Factory without Martha.
XOXO
